The New Wave of Baby Changing Bags

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

One of the biggest maternity style trends has been the adoption of cool baby change bags by mums to be and new mums. Gone are the days when moms would throw baby paraphenalia into whatever bag they had close at hand. Having a matching “pram bag” is also no longer popular – gorgeous baby changing bags which compete with the latest fashion bags are the key look today.

These new styles of baby changing bags hold their own in the fashion stakes yet are robust and large enough to be a practical option. When you are choosing a baby change bag you need to bear in mind that this is an investment buy which should not only see you through your baby’s early days but still be around for any later additions to the family. But when you’ve finished using your bag to carry baby items, the best baby changing bag will convert effortlessly into all purpose designer bag.

When you’re choosing your change bag there are several key points you need to follow:

Fabric – you are no longer kept to “wipe-clean vinyl” – the new wave of baby changing bags include bold prints and tactile fabric. Leather is the hottest trend at the moment and a leather baby diaper bag will not only turn heads but age well and withstand the rough and tumble of the early days.

Accessories – the new style of bags include lots of accessories to make life easier for the new mum, but which can be removed when the time for fashion bag conversion arrives! Matching travel wipe holders, change mats and insulated holders for liquids or food are practical accessories you cannot afford to be without.

One brand which has cornered the market in style and practicality is OI OI. OIOI first hit the scene with their unique Hobo baby changing bag which has become a classic style in its own right. Finishing up the range this season are the messenger bag (which makes a perfect bag for Dads) and the roomy carry-all. OIOI select materials carefully including patent leather, wool and microfibre. The standout addition this season though has to be the chestnut leather Hobo. This is a lovely diaper bag in snakeskin printed leather with chunky metal hardware and adjustable shoulder strap. Effortlessly stylish it combines the best in practical design and its cool features mean it is a perfect baby change bag for stylish mamas.

Choosing a StorkSak Baby Change Bag

The designer baby change bags by StorkSak are increasingly popular due to their sheer style combined with an array of practical features. But how to decide which StorkSak to buy when there is such a lot of choice?

Your baby changing bag will be carried everywhere with you while your baby’s small, so choose one you really love, and this means both in terms of style and practicality.

Elizabeth
The StorkSak Elizabeth bag is the top of the range bag, made of hardwearing leather with chunky metal rings, clasps and studs it looks and feels like a really good bag. It has an excellent array of pockets inside, as well as a removable insulated bottle holder; outside there are more pockets and a phone holder.

The Stork Sak Elizabeth has classic looks, and is slimline enough to be carried easily over one shoulder with the leather handles, or across the body with the removable canvas handle. It can carry most laptops, and the internal bottle holders are removable to make extra space. This is an ideal bag to use as a work bag once you’ve finished carrying nappies around.

Julie
The StorkSak Julie is a little less expensive than the Elizabeth, and has a funky look. With nylon satin, leather and metal hardware, this looks more like a fashionable handbag than a baby bag. It has the usual staggering array of pockets, but is slightly less high then the Elizabeth, so has a squarer, more compact feel. The Julie baby bag comes with the same useful accessories (insulated bottle holder, change mat and mini bag) as the Elizabeth.

Mia
We have fallen in love with the StorkSak Mia bag, which has all the style of a chic handbag, with the usual StorkSak practicality. In this case the bag as a long adjustable handle and a magnetic clasp to fasten.

Emily
Very popular is the lovely StorkSak Emily bag. Similar in shape to the Mia, the Emily baby changing bag has additional pockets on the outside which are perfect for storing bits and bobs you want to access quickly. With brushed gold metal hardware, this is a really stylish bag!

Jamie
Otherwise known as the Brad Pitt Bag (after he was photographed with it), this is a stunning unisex bag your man won’t mind carrying (even my bag averse man likes it!). Large enough for most laptops, and with the usual StorkSak practical features, you’ll find the StorkSak Jamie bag is useful for a long time. With subtle style features such as the stylish canvas strap, contrast stitching and inline pockets, friends will never guess it’s full of nappies.

StorkSak’s Julie Change Bag

Last week we took delivery of our first StorkSak baby change bags, one of which is the Julie. The StorkSak Julie bag is equal parts funky bag and practical baby bag.

The bag is leather and nylon, with lots of style features like long leather zip pulls and metal studs, and of course a metal StorkSak label. It has leather handles long enough to wear comfortably over one shoulder, plus a long (detachable) handle so you can wear to bag across your body. As the long handle is canvas it can be folded and stowed inside without taking up a lot of room.

In terms of practical features, the main thing here is pockets, lots and lots of pockets! On the outside there are two sizable pockets, one on the outside and one on the inside, which close with magnets. Inside the bag there are lots of pockets of varying sizes, some zipped, some lightly elasticated. There is also a mini bag, a removable insulated bottle holder and of course a padded change mat.

Our most popular item so far …

Well, by far and away our most popular item has been the rather lovely Chocolate Leather BabyBag, and I am not surprised! It looks like a capacious hand-bag or stylish overnight bag, indeed it could easily be used as an overnight bag after baby has finished with the nappy changing and potty training.

The next shipment from Lin and Leo to Cecily Plum will contain the turquoise BabyBag as well as the chocolate, as this is a gorgeous colour too, and we predict it will be just as much of a winner!

BabyBo Bag - also rather lovely

BabyBo Bag - also rather lovely

In the meantime, I’d like to point out the Red BabyBo bag, which I think is equally gorgeous, but also slimmer for those of us who like to carry around a little less.  The BabyBo could later become a large handbag, or a work bag as it’s a great size for papers and so on.
