You already know that maternity clothes are necessary when you are pregnant, but have you thought about your options when it comes to the time after you give birth? If you are going to be breastfeeding, you are going to find that you need to look into clothes that are going to accommodate this easily and comfortably. Especially if you intend to breastfeed while out and about, having clothes that are suitable to the purpose can make breastfeeding itself much more comfortable. Take some time to learn more about some of the great clothes that can help you with this process!

In the first place, you will find that there are a number of different designs that can give your baby access in a fairly modest way. When you are looking at stretchy tops, you’ll find that there are many that have a scoop neck or a v-neck that can be pulled down and you will find that there are some more solid button up dresses that can be opened as well. There are also some excellent wrap tops that can be untied or pulled open in a way that allows you to feed your infant quite easily.

Also, don’t underestimate the power of simple wraps to make a statement. While you could simply bring along a towel, why not have a cloth that matches your outfit or that has a design in colors that you love? Having a special cloth just for this purpose can help you keep your things together and it can be a great way to look great while you are walking around. Some wraps will even double as scarves, so make sure that you find in a cloth that you like. Cashmere is a lovely fabric for this use.

When you are looking for good breastfeeding clothes, you may find that you should look into natural fibres. Natural fibres are very breathable and you will find that they will wick sweat away from your skin in a way that synthetics will not. Look for cotton blends that have some lycra in them so that you can get an attractively stretchy fabric, or look for dresses or button ups in cotton or linen. Clothes that are made from natural fibres will grow wonderfully soft as they age and they tend to last quite well, so consider what your options might be.

Take some time and look into the clothes that make you feel lovely and beautiful when you breastfeed. Far too many women feel embarrassed by their appearance when they have given birth, when instead, they should be celebrating! Take a look around and see what some of the great options in front of you are like.

It used to be that pregnant women weren’t very fashion conscious. Frankly, one tent looked as good as another and women just tried to get through without too much embarrassment. No wonder pregnancy was hidden away! Times have really changed, however. Modern maternity clothes are stylish, comfortable and make mum look like a million dollars. With spring fast approaching, what styles can an expectant mum expect to see? What looks are the most flattering to a mum-to-be?

Start With the Basics

While you want a few fun additions to your overall maternity wardrobe, you definitely are going to want to start with the basics. Spring maternity lines will feature plenty of tees, jeans and yoga pants. Because you will be wearing your maternity clothes for such a short time, you will probably want to select a few basic bottoms in solid colors. This will allow you to mix and match more effectively. Try to have at least two or three jeans in black or blue and a few pairs of trousers or knit pants, depending on your lifestyle. If you go out a lot, go with the dressier choice. Casual mums will probably prefer a comfortable pair of yoga pants. Don’t forget to round out your everyday wardrobe with some tee shirts. In spring, you will see floral prints, as well as pastel colors and basics like black, red and grey.

Dress Up a Little

Every pregnant mother will likely have a few occasions during her pregnancy where she will want to get out and about. Spring is the perfect time to shop for a special occasion maternity dress. In fact, the selection is usually better than during any other season. Spring brings on not only warmer weather, but weddings, and the new mum will need something to wear. Most dresses in spring lines feature short sleeves and shorter lengths. Floral prints are common. If your budget allows, get at least two, so that you’ll have a good variety in your wardrobe.

What About Length?

When it comes to the rest of a woman’s life, skirt length is really a matter of personal preference. If you have the right proportions and enough guts to get away with it, you can wear a mini length with confidence. However, as you browse fashion tips for maternity and start to shop the inventory of your favorite brands, you will notice that most maternity dresses and skirts are knee length or below. Frankly, as your belly grows, these lengths are just more flattering on your body. With so much emphasis already being placed on your midsection, you want to wear a skirt length that draws the eye downward, lengthening your overall silhouette. If you prefer shorter lengths, look for a tunic top, paired with leggings or yoga pants.

Round Out the Details

Besides your standard wardrobe, there are a few details that you should add to your maternity clothes. First, most newly pregnant mothers don’t realize that there is often a significant lag between when you grow out of your normal clothes and when you need maternity wear. For this transition period, look for a tube top or cover up. This accessory will allow you to wear your normal clothing, loosened or unbuttoned. It covers up the area and holds it all up. Another thing you might want to consider is purchasing a few camisoles in spring colors. These are fantastic layering pieces. A good maternity/nursing bra is also a good idea. Finally, don’t neglect night time maternity clothes. Many pieces of nightwear are designed with nursing access, so they are multipurpose and you can still wear them after your baby is born. Again, fresh colour palettes and soft fabrics abound in the spring lines.

The Olivia bags are chock full of pockets, with lots of space for everything you need, yet are surprisingly light. The colours are lovely and vibrant, and the gold coloured hardware really makes them stand out.

This week at Cecily Plum we’re looking forward to our first deliveries from the Spring Summer 2010 collections.  Expected first are the StorkSak and Babymel baby changing bags.
