Breastfeeding tops are specially designed so that your baby can get feeding access without you lifting your top. Nursing tops are ideal if you want to wear a fitted or long top. Designs vary – a fabric cross-over at the front is a classic breastfeeding top design, simply because it is so easy to use one-handed. Other styles for nursing tops include tunic tops – not usually an option for the breastfeeding Mum, but new styles have cleverly designed access for breastfeeding so you can make the most of the current tunic trend.

The best breastfeeding tops are, of course, cut to flatter the New Mum shape – bigger around the boob and not clingy around the tummy. Look for stretchy material, if the fabric contains elastane, it will always look good. Team with slim jeans and boots for stylish winter feeding. Breastfeeding tops with bold interesting prints give your new mum wardrobe variety, while plain nursing tops, including classic black, will go with anything.

Don’t forget that maternity accessories such as a long wide scarf can also be a useful aid to screen yourself from neighbours as you latch baby on.

And of course, don’t forget your underwear! Nursing underwear is a must. Key things to remember are that you need to be able to unclip quickly without fiddly clasps and hooks. Of course, you must get something that fits properly. Try ordering a few styles of nursing underwear in a few different sizes. Try them all on, jiggle about and keep only those that really fit and feel comfortable.

I like the fact it works well as a general man bag once it’s not needed as a baby bag. Although I am happy to have a separate bag for every conceivable purpose in a range of sizes, my man prefers to buy just one bag which will do for everything (well, really he’d like to make do with trouser pockets, but even he can’t fit nappies, a change of clothes and a selection of toys into his pockets).

We have just taken delivery of the fab “6 Way Maternity Dress”. This dress can be worn in six main ways, as a halter-neck, strapless, cross-neck, cap sleeve and one shoulder dress, and as a skirt. Each of these then has loads of variations, making this a versatile dress for events and a skirt for everyday.

The dress is made of a soft non-clingy fabric, so it’s really flattering. It’s great for after pregnancy too.
